The object of the Game

In a 90-minute game, the purpose of football is to score more goals than your opponent. The game is divided into two 45-minute halves. Players will have a 15-minute break known as halftime after the first 45 minutes of play. The second 45 minutes will start again, and the referee will add on any additional time (injury time) as necessary.

Players & Equipment

Each squad has eleven players. These consist of ten outfield players and one goalie. Each ground’s pitch has a different size, although they are all about 120 yards long and 75 yards broad. Each pitch will include a center circle, an 18-yard box surrounding the 6-yard box, and a 6-yard box near the goal mouth. The dimensions of each side of the pitch must be identical to one another.

The only real necessary items for a soccer game are a field and a ball. Players can also be seen donning matching strips, shin guards, and studded football boots. The only players permitted to handle the ball are the goalkeepers, who will also wear padded gloves. There will be a captain chosen for each team.

Scoring

To score, the ball must enter the net of your adversary. For a goal to be considered valid, the entire ball must cross the goal line. Any part of the body, save the hand or arm up to the shoulder, can be used to score a goal. The actual goal is a frame that is 8 feet tall and 8 yards wide.

Winning the Game

You must score more goals than your opponent to win. Except for cup games, where the game may go into extra time or even a penalty shootout to determine the victor, if the scores are tied after 90 minutes, the game will end in a draw. Except for goalkeepers, who may use any part of their body within the 18-yard box, players must kick the ball with their feet and are not allowed to use their hands.

Rules of Football (Soccer)

There is a 15-minute break in between each of the two 45-minute halves of a game.

A minimum of 7 players are required to make up a match, and each team is allowed a minimum of 11 players (including 1 goalie, who is the only player permitted to handle the ball inside the 18-yard box).

Either synthetic or real grass must be used to cover the playing surface. Pitch sizes might vary, but they must be between 100 and 130 yards long and 50 and 100 yards broad. Additionally, the pitch must be marked with an out-of-bounds rectangle around its perimeter. a center circle, two six-yard boxes, two 18-yard boxes, and two. Also required is a spot 12 yards from the center circle and both goals for a penalty.

The ball must be spherical in shape and have a circumference of 58 to 61 cm.

Each team may designate up to 7 subs. Every team is allowed a maximum of three substitutes per side during the course of the game. Substitutions can be performed at any moment. The team will be compelled to play without that player if all three substitutions are performed and a player is forced off the field due to injury.

There must be one referee and two assistant referees for each game (linesmen). The referee’s duties include keeping the score and deciding on matters such as fouls, free kicks, throw-ins, penalties, and added time at the end of each half. At any point during the game, the referee may seek advice from the assistant referees. The assistant referee’s duties include spotting offsides during the game (see below), throwing ins for either team and, when necessary, assisting the referee in all decision-making processes.

After the stipulated 90 minutes, 30 minutes will be added in the form of two 15-minute halves if the game needs to go to overtime due to a tie between the two teams.

If sides remain tied after extra time, a penalty shootout must be conducted.

A goal requires the entire ball to cross the goal line to be considered scored.

Depending on the severity of the foul, a player may be issued a yellow or red card for fouls committed; the referee has the last say in this. A yellow card serves as a caution, whereas a red one results in the player’s dismissal. One red card is equal to two yellow cards. A player who has been dismissed from the game cannot be replaced.

A throw-in is provided if a ball leaves play off an opponent on one of the sidelines. It is a goal kick if it leaves the field of the play off an attacking player on the goal line. It is a corner kick if it comes off a defender.

The Offside Rule in Football

When a pass is played through to the last defender and an attacking player is in front of them, offside may be declared. The offside zone is meant to deter players from just waiting near the opposing team’s goal for a ball. When the ball is played to them, they must be positioned behind the final defender to be onside. A free kick will be awarded to the opposing team if the player is deemed to be offside and in front of the final defender.

In their half, a player cannot be caught offside. A defender does not include the goalkeeper. The player is judged to be in front of the final defender if the ball is played backward and he is there.
